What's This About?
The post claims the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) on charges of wire fraud, false statements, and conspiracy to commit money laundering for allegedly funneling over $3 million in donor funds to violent extremist groups like the Ku Klux Klan and American Nazi Party between 2014 and 2023. It details how SPLC supposedly used fictitious bank accounts to hide payments and even coordinated with rally planners, such as for the 2017 Unite the Right event in Charlottesville. Key themes include betrayal of donor trust, manufacturing racism for profit, and FBI quotes from Director Kash Patel criticizing SPLC's operations as fraudulent.

💡Fun Facts

- 2FBI Director Kash Patel accused SPLC of paying extremist leaders to commit crimes while claiming to fight them.[1]
- 3Funds were allegedly routed through fictitious entities to groups including Aryan Nations and National Socialist Movement.[1]
- 4SPLC's former FBI ties were severed in October prior to the charges, amid Republican criticisms of partisanship.[3]
- 5The scheme reportedly spanned nearly a decade, from 2014 to 2023, per the federal indictment.[1]

Today, a grand jury in Alabama returned an 11-count indictment charging the Southern Poverty Law Center with wire fraud, false statements to a federally insured bank, and conspiracy to commit concealment money laundering. @splcenter stands accused of manufacturing and creating the very extremism it purports to oppose. Instead of dismantling extremism, @splcenter was funding it. I would like to thank our partners from @USAO_MDAL and @FBI for their incredible efforts in bringing this case. Today is just the beginning, stay tuned.
