About the Creator

Sen. Bernie Sanders is a long-serving Independent U.S. Senator from Vermont known for his progressive stance on foreign policy, often criticizing U.S. military interventions as imperialistic. His communication style is direct, principled, and focused on constitutional accountability and anti-war themes. As a prominent political figure with decades of experience, his statements carry high credibility among left-leaning audiences and shape Democratic debates on international affairs.

What's This About?

The post shares Sen. Bernie Sanders' official statement condemning President Trump's unilateral military action in Venezuela, including the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife by U.S. forces, followed by Trump's announcement that the U.S. will 'run' the country and seize its vast oil reserves. Sanders labels this as illegal, unconstitutional imperialism that violates international law and Congress's war powers, urging immediate passage of a War Powers resolution to end the operation. The statement draws parallels to past U.S. interventions in Latin America, emphasizing that such actions undermine global security and distract from domestic priorities amid ongoing U.S. crises.

🔥Why It's Trending

This content is trending due to the explosive nature of Trump's January 3, 2026, press conference confirming the dramatic kidnapping of Maduro and U.S. takeover of Venezuela, sparking immediate global outrage and partisan divides. Sanders' high-profile condemnation amplifies the debate on war powers and imperialism, going viral amid real-time reactions from Democrats demanding congressional intervention. Its timeliness coincides with heightened U.S. political tensions post-Trump's return to power.

💡Fun Facts

  • 1Venezuela holds the world's largest proven oil reserves, estimated at over 300 billion barrels, making it a prime target for resource control.
  • 2This marks the first U.S. presidential admission of directly kidnapping a foreign head of state since the 1989 Panama invasion.
  • 3Sanders has consistently opposed U.S. interventions, including voting against the Iraq War and criticizing actions in Libya.
  • 4Trump's 'running Venezuela' remark echoes historical U.S. policies like the Monroe Doctrine, which justified interventions in Latin America.
  • 5The War Powers Resolution of 1973, invoked by Sanders, has rarely been enforced against a president but could force a congressional vote here.

I hope people now understand. The President of the United States is not a game player. When he tells you he's going to do something and address a problem, he means it. https://t.co/bVhtqcoPWP
