For people who want to know why Namjoon is the target of a huge hate train: ‼️
Namjoon has become the victim of a toxic and racist online feud between Korean netizens and netizens from Southeast Asia (SEA) (Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, etc.).
How it started:
On January 31, 2026, at a DAY6 concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a fan (reported to be Korean) was caught breaking the rules by using a large professional camera rig. Malaysian attendees filmed the incident, called it disrespectful, and the video quickly went viral.
Some Korean netizens defended the fan and responded aggressively, which escalated into a large-scale racist online conflict. Netizens from other Southeast Asian countries, especially Indonesia, became involved. The issue spread widely to Threads and other social media platforms. It even ended up being reported on TV news in several of these countries.
Namjoon became involved without provocation because he is a convenient, high-profile symbol of a successful Korean man who doesn’t fit the stereotypical, filtered K-pop ideal or K-beauty standards. Some SEA users, particularly Indonesian users, have been spreading dehumanizing, racist, body-shaming, and colorist posts, as well as racist edits of Namjoon’s photos, in order to attack Korean people.
Namjoon does not deserve this hate. No one deserves this kind of negativity. He has done nothing except spread love. It’s time for us to show up and support him. He is human. His mental health matters. If we don’t stop this now, this hate will only continue.
